TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

TRIP OVERVIEW

What is the Kala patthar Trek?

The Kala patthar Trek is part of the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trekking route, but with a special twist. Most people hiking to EBC include a pre-dawn hike to Kala patthar (5,545 meters) to capture the glorious sunrise views over Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam.

Unlike Everest Base Camp, where you can’t actually see the summit of Everest due to surrounding peaks, Kala patthar offers a panoramic, unobstructed view of the summit. That’s why many trekkers consider Kala patthar the real highlight of the EBC trek

Where is Kala patthar Located?

Kala patthar is situated just above the village of Gorak Shep, the last teahouse stop before Everest Base Camp. It lies within Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It’s perched at the edge of Pumori base camp, directly facing the Everest massif.

Plan your adventure better and in detail with this interactive trekking map that outlines the trail from Lukla to Everest Base Camp.

Want the full Everest experience? Join the Everest Base Camp Trek and walk in the footsteps of mountaineers to the base of the world’s highest peak.
